Dear Self,

As you write this, your favorite sports team, and probably the only sports team that matters to you, just lost the first game of the finals series. You are heartbroken, of course, but thing is, you are generally okay. That is not to say you will take jokes about your team’s loss lightly—you won’t and you’d likely bite anyone’s head off if they make jokes about today’s loss—but you’re no longer marinating in misery. In the past, you would have soaked the misery and dwell in it, for days. But now, not anymore. Somehow you’re better equipped to deal with the loss of your beloved team.

Perhaps it’s because the weekend sans the loss was a wonderful one. As your second spawn puts it, it was a good food weekend. While he focused on the food you indulged over the weekend, what you enjoyed most was the fact you spent the weekend with your boys. Just your boys. No one else at home, not even the help. Just the four of you at home. Drowning in take-out. Laughing at your hubby’s and second spawn’s antics. Chatting with first spawn on anything and everything. Laughing and chatting at the dinner table.

Nothing nourishes your soul more than having a great time with the people you love especially your boys, and this weekend is proof of that. Your team may have lost but you don’t feel as bad, because now you recognize that this weekend was all sorts of awesome in spite of the loss.

Love, Yourself
